Who We Are

Plenty is a nutrient-rich cell culture supplement filled with growth factors and cytokines, which are essential for regenerative medicine, cell culture, and vaccine production of different types of cells such as mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs).

Developed by a group of scientists who were passionate about finding an environmentally friendly and slaughter-free approach to produce an FBS alternative.

Our proprietary process involves using a gentle and minimally invasive method to collect plasma samples from our own herd of cows that were rescued from dairy farms and slaughterhouses. We then process the plasma to enhance the efficacy and create Plenty.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • To use Plenty, thaw the product in a water bath at 37℃. Once thawed, it can be divided into smaller sterile containers and stored at -80℃ for future use or refrigerated at 2℃-8℃ if anticipated usage is within one month. Add Plenty to the cell culture medium to reach the desired concentration. A 10% (v/v) concentration in the desired media has shown similar growth rates to Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) media prepared with the mentioned concentration. It is recommended to optimize the concentration for each cell line used. Further instructions can be found in our Product Specification Sheet

  • Plenty’s quality specifications are similar to FBS. This includes aerobic plate count (<10 CFU/g), mold (<10 CFU/g), and yeast (<10 CFU/g) tests. It is also tested negative for mycoplasma growth. Additionally, the total protein content ranges from 4.5 - 7 g/dL, pH ranges from 7.0 - 8.0, and osmolality ranges from 280 - 360 mOsm/kg. The product has been tested for cell growth and has shown positive results.

  • Plenty works with a variety of basal media formulations for optimal growth of many cell types in vitro. It can be used to supplement different basal media to support the growth of mammalian cell types as well as others. We typically use High Glucose DMEM, but we suggest using whichever media you believe works best with your cell lines.

  • Yes, Plenty is committed to providing long-term support to meet your cell culture needs. While we currently have a proof of concept farm, we have designed our production process to be easily scalable. This means we can increase our production capacity to meet growing demand without sacrificing product quality or ethical standards. In fact, we currently over produce and have a sufficient inventory of our product ready to be shipped, ensuring a steady and reliable supply to meet your long-term requirements

  • The production process starts by collecting bovine plasma from live cattle in Plenty's herd using a minimally invasive method. Veterinary practitioners and technicians supervise the cattle's healthcare, ensuring efficient and reproducible collections while maintaining high animal welfare standards. The collected bovine plasma undergoes further proprietary processing to create Plenty, a bovine platelet lysate.

  • Plenty is dedicated to providing a steady and reliable supply of its product. Unlike FBS, our cows are kept alive and healthy, therefore, we do not have inherent supply constraints. With stringent collection and processing methods, it ensures a plentiful supply of bovine platelet lysate (bPL) to meet the demands of the cell culture industry without interruption.

  • Plenty's bovine platelet lysate (bPL) has shown effectiveness in promoting and sustaining the growth of various cell types. While we are continuously approving new cell lines to be used with Plenty, we are confident that Plenty will work with any cell lines that typically show positive results using platelet lysate products. Including, but not limited to: Human embryonic stem cells (hESCs), Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), Adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs), Bone marrow-derived stem cells, Fibroblasts, Epithelial cells, Endothelial cells, Neural stem cells (NSCs), Hepatocytes, Smooth muscle cells, Chondrocytes, Osteoblasts, Cardiomyocytes, Cancer cell lines (various types).

  • Plenty's bovine platelet lysate (bPL) is a rich source of animal protein and growth factors. While the specific growth factors may vary, they contribute to the promotion and sustenance of optimal cell growth in various cell types. Reach out to us directly for a full list of growth factors for Plenty.

  • While FBS is derived from the blood of bovine fetuses obtained after their mothers are slaughtered, Plenty's Bovine Platelet Lysate (bPL) is sourced exclusively from our own herd of rescued cows living on our regenerative farm. We prioritize animal welfare by providing a second chance at life for these animals and adhering to strict USDA animal welfare protocols. In contrast, the production of FBS involves harvesting blood from bovine fetuses through invasive techniques such as cardiac puncture, raising ethical concerns. By choosing Plenty, researchers can embrace ethical practices and support responsible cell culture without compromising scientific integrity.
